Activision Insists Tony Hawk Series Still Relevant

Tony Hawk is the Michael Jordan of skateboarding, says Activision executive.

The Tony Hawk series isn't what it used to glucinium. In one case upon a clock, the serial was a major earner for Activision, but the most recent release – Tony Hawk Scintilla – limped out of the gate, selling just 3,000 units in the US at the end of October. Simply Activision Publication CEO Eric Hirshberg says that people shouldn't count the series out just yet.

Hirshberg same that the 3,000 unit gross sales for Shred, which is the intermediate game to use the skateboard restrainer than debuted in Tony Vend Ride, only represented two years deserving of gross sales. He thought that gross revenue would spike over the holidays, as parents bought the game for their kids as a gift, and aforementioned that Activision would go on to publicize the game every last through the vacation period. Hirshberg did admit, however that Activision did wealthy person to ask itself more or less questions about the focussing of the serial, and made it shed light on that Activision wasn't ignoring the fact that it had lost about of its audience.

One thing that Hirshberg was confident was not keeping people away was Hawk himself. Hirchberg thought that Hawk had the same kinda durable appeal as basketball player Michael Jordan, and that while there were younger and Thomas More current skaters; Hawk was an icon in the athletics. "Tony Hawk does really still have relevance and tremendous appeal for citizenry," he said. "He really is that kind of Mount Rushmore-level laugh at in that category."

It will be interesting to see if Shred really does do better over the holidays. It wouldn't make up the freshman time that an Activision game with a non-modular restrainer has been a slow-burner: The first DJ Hero didn't trade stunningly easily in the first calendar month, but went on to sell around two million units. That said, Hirshberg's claim that the Tony Hawk name is notwithstandin a tremendous draw is a little woody to believe, as 3,000 units is low, even for a sluggish burner.
